Wonderful Irish estate — both luxe and cozy
"What could be better? Located straight south of Dublin in beautiful County Wexford and so convenient to castles, shopping, charming local restaurants and pubs, and beaches. The lovely bright family kitchen and cozy snug make you feel at home, while the more stately sitting room may inspire letter-writing and prose! Bring the family or travel with friends or couples. We had a fun-filled girls’ getaway and toured Jonestown Castle, Glendalough, and Kilkenny to name a few, plus pints of Guinness at the local Merry Elf. Just felt like I was walking around in a postcard — can’t wait to go back!"

Joyful week with friends at Ballyrane!
"Just spent a wonderful week with friends touring the south of Ireland using Ballyrane as our base. Staying in this quiet and comfortable manor home truly enhanced our Irish adventures. Only twelve minutes from Rosslare Strand, we walked that gorgeous beach and golf area and ate a delicious meal at Kelly's Resort. After day trips to the Wicklow Mountains, Glendalough, Kilkenny and more, Ballyrane welcomed us back and we relaxed in front of the fire, sipped wine and noshed. Local shopping and dining in Wexford was a abundant and, even more local, we loved the food at Karoo and the entertainment at the Merry Elf, both about three minutes drive from Ballyrane. The spacious and well appointed kitchen was perfect for for preparing breakfasts and a couple of dinners at home. The grand living and dining room would have made an impressive entertaining area as well. We can't wait to return to Ballyrane!"

House History
In the civil survey of 1654, the townland of Ballyrane was held by the Sinnott family.
Over the following centuries Ballyrane was owned by the well-known Wexford, Meadows and Lett families.
It is believed that the core of the current house dates back to the mid-1700s.
It has been improved and extended considerably since then, with each owner making their mark.
It is noted that the Lett family who owned the house in 1837 sold it in 1958 to a Colonel Cormack Callanan Furney.
In 1969 he sold the property to a trust which held it for the grandson of a Thomas Gibbons Hawksworth Smyth.

The house was considerably extended in 1972/73 and was bought by a William Devereux in the mid-1980s.
In 1990 the property changed hands and a programme of extensive improvements and alterations was commenced.
Ballyrane House has been lovingly maintained and improved ever since.
Ballyrane House is now a rare example of a beautifully appointed yet manageable country house in a convenient and desirable location.
